I am getting an HDCP error on my screen

Instructions for what to do in response to an HDCP error

An HDCP error stands for High Definition Content/Copyright Protection. It is an error message generated between the set top box (STB) and the HDMI port on a TV. Not all HDMI ports are HDCP compliant but television providers STBs must be compliant.

Most new TVs will have 1 or more HDCP compliant HDMI ports. You would have to refer to the user manual for the TV or speak to the manufacturer to be sure which port is compliant. Older TVs may not have any HDCP compliant HDMI ports. The HDCP error may not appear all the time and will only show up intermittently or not at all for long periods of time. The only way to be sure the error message doesn’t show up is to ensure the HDMI port the STB is connected to is HDCP 2.2 compliant.

To try and clear an HDCP error

  1. Unplug the small thin black power cable from the back of the STB for 10 seconds and then plug back in and wait for it to boot up which will take approximately 1 minute.
  2. If the error re-appears you can try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable from the TV.
  3. If it is still appearing try a different HDMI port. Once you change ports you will need to change the input on the TV to the HDMI port you moved the cable to to regain picture.
