How can I Port Forward for my Game System?

Walkthrough of Port Forwarding a modem for a gaming system

Port forwarding can be used to reduce latency and lag on gaming systems by allowing data to be received by the game system more quickly. However this could make your gaming system more vulnerable to security threats.
To set up port forwarding, you must first identify your router.

 

Zyxel P-660HN & Zyxel VMG 4325-B10A

  1. Log into your modem with the following information.
    • Address: 192.168.35.1 for the P660 192.168.250.1 for the VMG4325
    • Username: user
    • Password: tbaytel1
  2. Hover mouse over Network Setting and click on NAT.
  3. Click on the Port Forward tab.
  4. Click on Add New Rule.
    • Active – Activate or Disable the rule.
    • Service Name – Name for the service rule being created, "XBox" for example.
    • WAN Interface – Select the correct internet connection: PPPoE or Internet.
    • WAN IP – leave blank.
    • Start Port – First port to open.
    • End Port – Last port to open (Note: if only opening one port, the start and end port entries should the same).
    • Translation Start Port – leave blank.
    • Translation End Port – leave blank.
    • Server IP Address – IP address of game console (e.g. Xbox).
    • Protocol – Are the ports TCP based, UDP based ports or both TCP/UDP.
    • Click OK to create and save the port forwarding entry.
    • Repeat the process to add any additional port forwarding entries.

 

Comtrend CT-5374, VR-3033 & WR-6895

  1. Log into your modem with the following information.
    • Address: 192.168.250.1
    • Username: user
    • Password: tbaytel
  2. Click the Advanced Setup link near the left of the page.
  3. You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click NAT.
  4. You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Triggering.
  5. Click the Add.
    • Either select:
      • Select an Application - if the application is in the list.
      • Custom Application - Set a name for the system.
    • Trigger Port Start – First port to open.
    • Trigger Port End – Last port to open (Note: if only opening one port, the start and end port entries should the same).
    • Trigger Protocol – Are the ports TCP based, UDP based ports or both TCP/UDP.
    • Open Port Start – First port to open.
    • Open Port End – Last port to open (Note: if only opening one port, the start and end port entries should the same).
    • Open Protocol – Are the ports TCP based, UDP based ports or both TCP/UDP.
    • Repeat for each port needed for this one system.
    • Click Save/Apply.

 

Connect Hub & Connect Hub+

  1. Log into your modem with the following information.
    • Address: 192.168.250.1
    • Username: admin
    • Password: (on sticker on the modem)
  2. Click the Advanced tab, which is at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on the Security category at the left of the screen.
  4. Click on Port Forwarding.
  5. Click on New.
    • Select the Device in the list.
    • Protocol: Are the ports TCP based, UDP based ports or both TCP/UDP.
    • Port Start – First port to open.
    • Port End – Last port to open (Note: if only opening one port, the start and end port entries should the same).
    • Remote IP – leave default.
    • Port Start – First port to open.
    • Port End – Last port to open (Note: if only opening one port, the start and end port entries should the same).
  6. Click Apply to save the change.
  7. Repeat the process to add any additional port forwarding entries.
