Good Employees

At Tbaytel, we know that one of the things our employees are most proud of is our commitment to supporting the communities we serve, both locally and throughout northern Ontario, which is why we introduced an internal program.
The Good Employees program encourages teams within Tbaytel to search out grassroots organizations and groups in our neighbourhood who are already working to improve their own communities. The goal is to engage Tbaytel employees and provide opportunities to give back in meaningful ways.

Common Good Food Gardens

The Common Good Food Gardens is a food growing initiative whose work benefits non-profit organizations who feed people in Thunder Bay. This group believes in dignified food access, food security, a nourishment of community, now and in the future.

Tbaytel employees visited one of the donated garden spaces to prepare a no-till garden space. We were put to work weeding, raking leaves, levelling the ground, laying cardboard and mulch, spreading manure and compost, shaping rows and planting seeds.

Our donation allowed Common Good Food Gardens to purchase compost, soil amendments and other supplies to ensure successful gardens in the future. This is one way that our Tbaytel Good Employees program has contributed to dignified food access in our neighbourhood. We’re in it together.

Neighbours Helping Neighbours - Community Cook Group

Castlegreen Co-op is a non-profit member owned community in Thunder Bay with 215 housing units, many of which are occupied by single seniors. The Community Cook Group was initiated by a small group of residents in 2022 as a cooking club. Six individuals began cooking single serving freezable meals. They shared the work and divided the expenses to fill their freezers with a variety of convenient, tasty and low-cost meals.

Soon other Castlegreen neighbours joined the Community Cook Club and they began preparing more meals than they needed for themselves. They would pay for extra meals and give them to neighbours who they knew were struggling. The awareness grew within the Castlegreen community that residents can and should care for one another because that’s what good neighbours do.

The Tbaytel Good Employees program purchased a new upright freezer for the Castlegreen Community Centre as well as much-needed kitchen equipment and groceries for the month’s cook. Our volunteers joined the Community Cook Group to help prepare more than 600 meals. 450 of those meals will be purchased and the remaining 150 from this cook will be available to any of the residents who find themselves in need of a bit of help. We’re in it together.

Thunder Bay Family Network

Tbaytel employees purchased supplies to host a fun-filled BBQ for the Thunder Bay Family Network's ICAN Program. This organization is dedicated to nurturing the strengths, dreams and enthusiasms of individuals with disabilities and their families and caregivers. There were plenty of smiles and laughter as we enjoyed an evening of games, prizes, a pinata bursting with candy, delicious hamburgers, sausages, ice cream, musical entertainment, cold drinks and hot weather. We're in it together.

Our Kids Count

Tbaytel employees purchased, delivered and unpacked dry/canned goods, baby supplies, personal hygiene items, feminine products, as well as fresh/frozen fruit and vegetables for Our Kids Count. These much needed supplies restocked their Emergency Food Cupboards which offer families a weekly opportunity to pick up a 2-3 day supply of food. Our staff were happy to help distribute these bags to our neighbours at the McKenzie Street location and a cash donation also helped to ensure that future supplies would be made available at both Our Kids Count locations. We're in it together.

Thunder Bay Counselling

Tbaytel employees purchased, assembled and delivered supplies to support 20 participants; 10 women and their children in the "Tomorrow Without Violence Program", and 10 youth in the "Independence Group". These programs teach participants valuable coping strategies and offer life skills support to help them build brighter futures.

Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario

In addition to a financial contribution for year-round programming, Tbaytel employees shopped and packed supplies for the "Experience the Rainbow" themed week-long summer camp. This program offers children (and their siblings) with cancer or blood disorders or cancer-related illnesses a week of summer fun activities where they can focus on just being kids.

The Community Clothing Assistance

Tbaytel purchased, assembled bundles and delivered $6,000 worth of underwear for the UNDERCOVER Project which provides children with a week's supply of new underwear.

PRO Kids

Tbaytel donated $6,000 to fund a further 15 registrations for children/youth to participate in hockey for the 2021/2022 season. As well, our staff participated in a hockey equipment giveaway event, fitting the recipients with the necessary gear to get them game ready!
