We are seeking a leader with executive-level experience in the telecommunications sector to join the Tbaytel Municipal Service Board. Responsibilities

Directors are responsible for contributing to the successful governance of Tbaytel and are active and voting members of the Board. Directors will attend all meetings of the Board and participate in decision making with respect to the strategic direction and financial management of Tbaytel. In addition, Directors will ensure Tbaytel management compliance with all aspects of the Board’s governance policy. As representatives of Tbaytel, Directors contribute to a positive relationship with our customers, stakeholders and the communities we serve. This is a paid board position as per City Council approved rate card. Applicants will view this position as an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the economic growth of both Tbaytel and the community, and be prepared to devote time and effort to their respective roles on the board.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a sophisticated understanding of the technology and service requirements of a regional telecommunications carrier including:

  • Executive leadership experience in the management and delivery of wireless and broadband services
  • Prior experience on a corporate or public board, with a strong preference for formal accreditation (e.g., ICD.D or C.Dir)
  • Experience in corporate strategy, particularly in navigating market competition and driving long-term organizational sustainability
  • High-level financial literacy with experience overseeing capital-intensive infrastructure investments and multiple service revenue and expense budgets
  • A deep understanding of the Canadian telecommunications regulatory environment (CRTC)
  • Knowledge of the emerging risk/opportunity landscape, including Cybersecurity, Data Privacy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as they relate to modern network operations and the user experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute effectively within a high-functioning, team-based board environment

Candidates must demonstrate honesty, integrity, independence and financial soundness. Tbaytel is located in Thunder Bay, Ontario and the Board meets at least six times a year and you will be expected to serve on two Board committees, for a total time commitment of 15 -20 meetings per year. Up to three Board meetings will be held face to face in Thunder Bay with the remainder being conducted through video conference.
